Topic: Short Stories

Salarius was a 22 year old tall dark handsome young man with the body of a greek god, but some of his ways and attitude made him the most undesirable creature on this earth. He felt above everyone else because he was born into a fairly wealthy family and could afford most of the things he wanted in life. If you were less fortunate than he, he had nothing to say to you. One day he was driving his new jaguar throught the neighborhood he saw his two close friends talking to two females from the other side of town. He pulls his car beside his two friends and very rudely asked, " what's the deal with you guys, these women are from the projects."

Donald whom is caucasian and from a much wealthier family replied, "what's with you man, just because they don't drive a fancy car and live in this neighborhood you hate them?" Hey man! Beck and I don't need your type of friendship you can just go on. Salarius looks up at them and chuckles, " you'll see what I'm talking about when they start to ask for your money," he speeds off. What is wrong with him Olivia asks? His head is too big for his shoulders said Beck, if it wasn't for his parents he'd have nothing. He don't even own the shirt on his back, and he treats his parents like shit.

His father invited us to dinner last week, he and my father they're good friends. His mother prepared the most wonderful meal, she prepared it herself. There was pot roast with carrots and potatoes, cornbread, greens, and home mac and cheese with about four desserts. He waited until everyone was seated and preparing to say grace then comes in with an attitude, asking his mother why she didn't have a real meal, "this dinner is for peasants and foodstamp people." Everyone was shocked, his mother left the table in tears as his father comforted her. He returned shortly and ordered Salarius to leave the room. As he left the room he he cursed his father then told him he hated him. His father dropped his head in embarrasment and apoligized for his son's behavior, you could see the pain in his eyes.

A few days later Salarius apoligized to his parents and to his friend Beck. After that he did quite well for a while until he found out that Donald and Beck was having a party and didn't invite him. They was celebrating the opening of their first fast food franchise together. Salarius was asked if he wanted to be a partner, but to him it was a stupid idea because he wouldn't have time to work at owning a business. As Salarius walked through the livingroom his father came through the front door loaded with luggage from a overnight trip he took. Before he could put his bags down there was a knock at the door, it was Mr. Hollimon from next door. "I need to talk to you for a moment Lesko if you have time." Salarius took a seat on the sofa as Mr. Hollimon looked at him. "Can I talk to you in private Lesko?" Sure!Come into the study, Sal go let your mother know I'm back. They goes into the study and shuts the doors.

I questioned myself if I should tell you this or not, my wife says it wouldn't be right not too. Yesterday my wife and I were in the backyard cooking. We heard someone arguing in your backyard so we looked to see who it was and saw Salarius hit Martha three times and knocked her down, then he left. We wanted to call police but Martha said not to. She had caught him stealing money from her purse and confronted him.  Mr. Lesko angrily went into the house to confront Salarius but he was gone, Martha was sitting on the sofa nervously rubbing her hands together and crying. "This is the last straw says Mr. Lesko", he calls the police and tells them where his son could be found. When they arrived at the party Salarius was fighting with Donald's cousin. The police finally subdued him and arrested him for criminal assault on his mother.

While in jail his life started to go down hill, his father cancelled his bank account, took his name from the will and returned his jaguar to the dealer and told him he couldn't return home. That hurted his father's heart but it had to be done. Once Salarius was transferred to the penal farm he was attacked and raped numerous times by inmates who hated him for beating his mother. Three years went by and it was finally release time, but he had nowhere to go. He went to people he knew and was turned away. One night while wondering the streets Olivia recognized him and stopped to help. "What happened to you?" Are you alright? Come on get in, are  you hungry?Salarius could do nothing but look at her and remember what he had said. Look, I'm not going to leave you out here in the streets, you can stay with my mom and I a few days. The person that he'd looked down on was giving him refuge.

The next night Olivia heard Salarius moaning and groaning as he threw up in the bathroom. She rushed in to help him. I need to go to the hospital he said faintly, "I feel like I'm dying." Olivia and her mother rushed him to the hospital and waited as the doctors carry him to the back. About an hour and a half later the doctor returned and told them to go home, there was nothing they could do. Dying alone in the hospital he realized his mistakes, for the first time in his life he began to cry and talk to God asking for forgiveness. He also prayed to see his mother and father again to tell them he was sorry for the pain he had caused them.

Later that night as he laid in his hospital bed an angel came to him and said, "God has forgiven you, now you must forgive yourself." I'm here to give you another chance at life, it's up to you to honor it. The angel vanished as Salarius feel asleep. After his morning checkup the doctor had a puzzled look on his face. Salarius asked him to call his parents so he could say good bye. The doctor smiled at him, "son you're not going anywhere, the disease is gone." Salarius looked stunned as he remembered the angel and what he thought was a dream. Later that evening when he awakened his parents was next to his bed, he grabbed the both of them and cried as he held them tight. Mother, father I'm sorry please forgive me. We already have says his mother, we came to take you home.

A month later Salarius was working in the family business, two years later his father retired and left running the business up to him. They were very proud of what he had become, and so was his friends old ones, new ones and even friends from the projects inwhich he helped by giving them jobs. He never stopped thanking God for his new found life and strength in respecting others no matter where they came from or what they had.Innocent
